Luka Louis Perrin is born!

Today at 12:17 am, November the 26th of 2008 Nadine and I welcomed our first child Luka Louis Perrin to the world.

Luka weighed in at 9 pounds and 10 ounces. (4366 Grams for the my German peeps!)

He is 21 and 1/2 inches tall. Head circumference: 14 inches. Chest: 14 inches.

Does it have to be kid friendly?

Just the facts ma’am

We found out we were pregnant on March 23rd 2008
We waited until June 9th 2008 before telling anyone
The first craving mommy had during her pregnancy was on June 22nd 2008. She wanted Fresh fruit, especially peaches.
The baby goes wild when mommy eats tomatoes. Does he love them or hate them? Only time will tell
Our first sneak peak of the baby was on July 1st 2008 when we found out that it’s a boy!
The original due date was November 24th but was later changed to November 18th after Dr. Bird saw the ultrasound photos. Labor was induced on November 25th and the birth was on November 26th at 12:17 am.

It’s a Boy!

The early mornings have already started. I was (reluctantly) up bright and early today. We had an appointment to see our baby for the first time. I’m not a morning person but I should start getting used to seeing that yellow thing in the sky rise. What is that thing anyway?

I woke up pretty fast as soon as I saw our baby on the ultrasound monitor. If ever there was a reality check today was it. Actually seeing the baby was an eye opening. No longer was Nadine just pregnant. Seeing the baby wildly move around on the screen made me realize just how real this is.

Feelings of excitement and fear were both equally prevalent. I held Nadine’s hand and we continued to watch the screen. The ultrasound technician must have shown us and taken pictures of every possible angle of our baby. It was truly amazing.

Almost an hour had gone by and just as the technician was about to give up, the baby cooperated and we learned the gender of our baby. He quickly covered his private parts with both hands as if he knew we were staring. How modest of him.

Like father, like son. The ultrasound technician had to push and poke around to wake the little guy as he had fallen asleep. Being half asleep myself I could relate.

We are happy to report that as far as we could tell he has all limbs in tact. Ten fingers and toes. And based on the measurements taken, our boy, as of today weighs 15 ounces.

How to be happy at 4 o’clock in the morning

It was four in the morning. I was sleeping. Then things started shaking… an eathquake? No. As soon as I could put my thoughts together I realized that Nadine was trying to wake me up (not an easy task). But why would she disturb my slumber?

“What! What! Is everything ok? Whats wrong?” I proclaimed.

She softly whispered “I’m pregnant.” and rolled over to go back to sleep.

She assumed I’d be too out of it and/or tired to process the news. Her plan was to tell me again in the morning. In her defense I did tell her to let me know the second she ever had such news.

She was right. It took me 30 seconds or so to realize what she told me. Then it hit me. Wait. Uhhhh… did I just hear that correctly? It was my turn to do the shaking. “REALLY?” I asked.

Aparently she got up a few minutes earlier to take the pregancy test. It was less than three weeks ago that we made the decison to start trying for a baby. WOW! that didn’t take long.

While she managed to be cool calm and collected I couldn’t contain my excitement. For the first time ever I was happy at four oclock in the morning. She was started to pull from my energy and was as excited as any normal person could be at four am.

We talked for the next hour about the things we could now look forward to and the challenges we’d soon face. There will be plenty of time to work out the details. But right there in the moment none of that really mattered. I was still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I was going to be a dad.

How cool is it to discover this news on Easter morning!

She managed to finally get back to sleep. But I was more awake than I’ve ever been. Thats why I’m writing this at five am. But I’ll need to get as much sleep as I can. I’ve got the feeling I’m going to need it.
